Review
- How is Christ described in these verses?
- When did He exist?
- What did He make, and how was it made?
Reflect
Bible commentaries say that today’s verses contain one of the strongest statements about Jesus’ divine nature in all of Scripture. Jesus isn’t merely equal with God; He IS God. He’s the One by whom, through whom, and for whom everything was created. He sustains and holds all of creation together. No one and no thing on this earth can exist without Him.
So often, we lose sight of this truth. Instead of living by Jesus, through Jesus, and for Jesus, we build our lives around other things – by our mortgage, through our mortgage, for our mortgage… or by our kids, through our kids, for our kids… or by our retirement account, through our retirement account, for our retirement account.
Jesus deserves so much more. He wants you to seek Him first, not because He’s a priority among many, but because He is Lord of all. He wants to use you to bring light to a dark world. He wants you to not sit back and wait for other people to step in, but to acknowledge Him as first, not only with your words but with your actions. He’s the sustainer of everything and everyone. He’s the beginning and the end. Let today be the day that someone sees Him through you.

- When you look at your personal life decisions, would you say they line up with what this passage says about Jesus? Where is there a disconnect?
- Do your words and actions currently point others to know the fullness of who Jesus is? What might need to change in order for you to point people to Him more clearly?
