Convinced of a lie.

Series: FOBO (Fear Of Better Options) | Week 4: Now What?

Genesis 3:1-6

“The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’” “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.”

Often, when we think of people who make wrong choices, we think of people in crisis. But look back at where Eve is when she becomes convinced of a better option. She is in the Garden of Eden… paradise. Even in the paradise, the fear of better options can begin to creep in. She rethinks everything she has come to know to be true about God and makes the worst decision of her life.

Respond

1. The same serpent that deceived Eve in paradise is alive today and looking for ways to take you off the path God has for you and convince you that better exists. What steps can you take to start recognizing the lies and half-truths the Enemy whispers in your ear throughout your day?

2. Take time each day to fill your heart with the truth of God’s Word, asking Him to use it to help you recognize the lies of the Enemy. Ask God to begin to change your desires to match His desires for you, believing He has the absolute best option in mind for you!
