The root of all sin.

Series: We Are TPCC | Week 1: Humble

Philippians 2:3
“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.”

Pride, or selfishness, truly is the root of all sin. Think about the lies you tell, the comparisons you make, the social media posts you put up, the anger you express, the envy you feel, the addiction you have, or the gossip you engage in. Tracing back to the ‘why’ of each will almost always bring you back to selfishness or pride. The antidote, according to this verse, is to think of others as better than you! Put the needs of other people before your own.

Respond

 1. Think about your interactions and conversations with other people. Do you spend the majority of your time being interested in others or trying to be interesting to them? Ask God to do a work in your heart, helping you to take a genuine interest in other people, thinking of them as better than you!

 2. Use the list above to help you identify your biggest struggle area and then take some time, right now, to confess your sins of pride and selfishness to God. Thank Him that He is faithful and just to forgive you and then purify and cleanse you! See 1 John 1:9.
