The Next Right Step

Series: MasterClass | Week 7: Putting Worry in its Place

Day Five Matthew 6:34

34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” – Matthew 6:34 (NLT)

Learn From the Word
Jesus knows that troubles and worry in this life are real, and in this verse, He gives us a practical way to put them in their place. He tells us to live in the present by focusing on the next right step. God has a good, pleasing, and perfect plan for our lives, but He knows we often miss it when our minds are consumed with worry about tomorrow. A life of obedience is lived one step at a time.

Put It Into Practice
Spend some time reviewing our passage for this week, and ask God what your next step of obedience should be and then take it. Do you need to get to know His character better? Do you need to confess to a trusted friend any disordered priorities? Maybe you need to get proactive at turning trouble into prayer before it begins to consume you. Whatever it is, thank God for His perfect will for your life and tell Him you want to follow one step at a time.

For Families with Kids at Home
Jesus tells us that when we spend time worrying about things we can’t control, it just steals the joy away from today. Ask your kids what things they worry about that are beyond their control. Take time to pray with them, and ask God to help them with those things since He’s the only One who can control what’s outside our control!
