Review
1. Where did Paul and Silas go when they arrived in Berea?
2. How did the Bereans respond to Paul’s message?
3. Who believed as a result?
Reflect
Paul and Silas got booted out of Thessalonica and ended up in Berea. While people chose to follow Jesus in both locations, the Bereans were described as more open-minded. They listened eagerly, but they weren’t gullible. They searched the Scriptures daily together to know what was true.
Just like the Bereans, we can’t know what is true by simply taking someone’s word for it. We have to know the Scriptures. If we don’t know what God says, how can we obey Him? We also need people around us to search and learn together. Not just once in a while, but on a regular basis. Consistency and proximity are critical. The Bible isn’t just for scholars to read and understand. It’s available to us. Let’s read it daily, and let’s read it in community.
Do you have an insatiable desire to hear from God or to read His Word? What steps are you taking, or could you take, to make it a daily practice? What habits might need to change to do so? Who can you link arms with to read and learn together?
