We all want to make a difference. In the church, this could look like serving on Sundays, participating in outreach projects, sharing the love of Jesus with our neighbors, or financially investing in what God is doing. Over the past two years, however, Traders Point’s Leadership Development team made a difference in a unique way: through leadership development training with Missions of Hope International (MOHI) in Nairobi, Kenya.
In 2022, MOHI, one of our long-standing global partners, approached our church with a request that went beyond financial support for their efforts to care for vulnerable children. They sought our help to develop a leadership program to support their ambitious goal of expanding from 38 to 100 care centers—comprising of schools, churches, health facilities and job empowerment centers—over the next decade. To achieve this, MOHI recognized that their biggest challenge was ensuring they had healthy and qualified leaders ready to serve in key leadership roles as each new center opened.
The Leadership Development team embarked on this two-year project with MOHI in 2022. They began by helping MOHI clarify their staff values, establish leadership levels, and outline competencies needed at each level. As they moved into year two, they worked together to develop a comprehensive training program and formed a leadership development team for MOHI, which is getting ready to add its third member. Toward the end of 2023, Traders Point's Leadership Development team focused primarily on equipping MOHI to take over leadership responsibility. All responsibility was fully handed over to MOHI in May 2024. Watching MOHI embrace the value of leadership development and build a dedicated team has been truly inspiring.
As we look to the future of this partnership, our church’s support will involve continued encouragement, support and coaching for the leadership development team at MOHI, as well as helping them explore a Learning Management System (LMS) as a potential solution for their training needs. We’re also continuing to support MOHI by serving the Bondeni and Kibarani care centers and encouraging our church family to sponsor kids.
You can join in supporting MOHI’s leadership development efforts by praying for their progress toward the 100 centers, giving financially to Awaken and participating in a future mission trip to Kenya.
We’re grateful for God’s providence in bringing the right people at the right time to help MOHI in their leadership development journey, and we praise Him for His guidance and the opportunity to be part of this transformative work. We're praying about what God has next for our partnership as we continue to advance the Kingdom together!
